The Verification and Control Unit (NUVEC – Nucleo di Verifica e Controllo), established pursuant to President of the Council of Ministers Decree dated 19 November 2014, consists of approximately thirty Components and operates under the Director General of the Agency. The Organisation Regulation (as per Decree No.157 issued by the Director General of the Territorial Cohesion Agency on 9 July 2021, replacing Decree No. 167 dated on 7 October 2020, Decree No. 87 dated on 6 May 2019, Decree No. 30 dated 22 February 2018, and Decree of the Director General No. 2 dated 10 January 2017) regulates NUVEC scopes of activity and internal organisation. Pursuant to Article 2 of the above Regulation, a Senior Coordinator is selected among NUVEC Components and entrusted, via Director General decree, with a one-year (renewable) mandate. An ad-hoc Working Group on monitoring was then established pursuant to Decree No. 167/2019. Via Decree No. 144/2020 the Working Group’s mandate was extended by one year from 5 September 2020.

The Unit includes the following areas of activity:

• Area 1: “Support and accompany the acceleration of EU and national Cohesion Policy programmes and actions, and assess their effectiveness”
• Area 2: “Verify programmes management and control systems, and Audit Authority”
• Area 3: “Monitoring Cohesion Policy implementation and Territorial Public Accounts”.

The areas of activity contribute to fulfilling the Unit’s mission and attaining the objectives and results pursued through ad-hoc technical and operational actions. Each Area is overseen by a Coordinator.
